To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to recommend Wendy Goldman as a specialist in Corporate Gerontology, Age Discrimination in Employment and Elder Abuse.  I have known her in several capacities over the last 12 years.

As a West Hollywood resident for more than 25 years, Ms. Goldman has demonstrated leadership as a member of the City’s Women’s Advisory Board (2007-present), a City Council appointed position.  In her capacity as a member of the Women’s Advisory Board she has worked on a number of projects including:

  • Report on the Status of Women in West Hollywood: Safety, Transportation, and Social/Community Services, 2007

  • First Legislative Subcommittee, 2007-2008

  • Women’s History Month kickoff and Banner Committee, 2009-10

  • Captain Kelley Fraser’s Welcome Reception, 2010

  • Women’s Equality Day, 2008-2009

  • Love Your Body Day, 2008-2009

  • Sunset Strip Music Festival Volunteer, 2009

  • Sunset Strip Business Improvement District, attending meetings as a concerned neighbor to learn about public safety, transportation, and economic development that affects her neighbors.

More important, she has brought information forward to City Council members regarding sensitive aging trends, including age discrimination in housing and women’s health care.  She initiated dialogue with City Hall staff about subliminal age discrimination in the workplace.  Ms. Goldman cares deeply about community challenges, including the aging of the community and the needs associated with housing, transportation, and health care.

Ms. Goldman nominated the Maple Counseling Center’s Community Response Team for the West Hollywood Public Safety Award, which they were awarded in 2010.  West Hollywood has now launched our own volunteer CRT to help survivors of accidents and crimes immediately following an incident.

Goldman’s ongoing focus on reducing intergenerational conflict and the “youth-based” media stereotypes helps her clients improve images of aging.  She strives to create a diverse society that rings the best of all cultures together to resolve serious problems of poverty, particularly in our older years.

Other community efforts include Goldman’s interest in Public Health.  She appeared at the West Hollywood Outdoor Smoking Ban Task Force on several occasions to address health hazards of smokers in outdoor restaurants as well as in public multi-unit dwelling public spaces.  Ms. Goldman followed up by speaking to City Council on this issue, describing the long term public health benefits outweighing short term economic gains.

I commend Ms. Goldman for her passion and advocacy for older adults, both in West Hollywood and the greater community.

In summary, I highly recommend Ms. Goldman for any position or endeavor that she may seek to pursue.  She will be a valuable asset for any organization.
